Politicians need to start talking about the dream 57 years after King, the moral obligation to address the racial disparities in home ownership, a "housing boom for low-income and first-time minority homeowners”, full employment, a guaranteed income, and a safety net for all citizens based on a reasonable income without police brutality.

Sounds easy when you put it like that. It should be that easy to be honest.

MLK gave the marching orders, instead they put him on an alter and sacrificed the message for war.

Indeed. They were supposed to pick up where he left off. But despite the efforts by Black people and other nonwhite communities, the government went full throttle in suppressing them and white support dwindled. Now, here we are, trying to pick the torch back up and they keep knocking it away.

People don’t want to think. They listen to mainstream media to form their opinions. All this Islamophobia by Republicans and Democrats is a commentary on where we are in terms of power, money and racism. Old guard doesn’t want to let go and red meat MAGA media are batshit crazy fueling the frenzy. I hope this young man has a thick skin and remains true to himself and his politics. AOC made the same difficult journey and beat the naysayers and establishment Dems. And she stands up to trump with a smile.

The bipartisan Islamophobia is very telling. They are falling for all of it under the guise of tackling antisemitism. The bias is very broad in this country and it is once again exposing liberals. Republicans didn't need exposing because they're so blatant about it.

It's crazy how MAGAish some Democrats are sounding. Did you hear that Gillibrand audio? She needs to be primaried.

I'm confused. So much of the post mortem from 2024 had to do with not being able to reach the youth and working class. The idea was that VP Harris had pivoted too much to the Right and away from her previous platform when she ran in 2020. Obviously, the People of NYC have spoken--and loudly. Those who the Establishment Democrats are trying to court on the Right will never vote Democrat no matter how strong they pivot to the Right. The mean girls are never going to let you sit with them and they'll never sit with you. A clear and central message that helps all Americans should be the goal. The Democrats should have a big enough tent for everyone in the party. Folks may not agree on every single thing, but certainly how to defeat fascism should be a priority for all. How can people criticize creating affordable housing, holding bad landlords accountable, supporting homeowners and renters, free buses, raising the minimum wage, small business assistance and many of the other items on Mr. Mamdani's platform? Those who CAN simply DON'T want to pay their fair share of taxes and with that, there is always an impasse.

It's really sad that a large portion of the Democratic Party is currently in crisis mode again. How is it someone like Mamdani and a ton of other progressives can win so soon after the last presidential election and the party is still trying to find direction? They are clearly not listening to the people.

I loved this article, and it has me thinking in new ways. The people seem to be gaining traction in learning about what is actually happening and publicly voicing their disapproval both with their protests and their votes. If this level of energy continues, do you see this as hope for real change?

I do. As long as people remain loud and consistent, they won't be able to dismiss everyone. Right now, it's easy for a Fetterman or Jeffries to come out and say things like, "this isn't the time" or "that's just not attainable" to shoot down great ideas. We should demand more, not less (as they would prefer).
