Unsurprisingly, the Border Security Bill Fails in the Senate Again (VIDEOS)
Republicans are unserious about the border and Democrats know it
On Thursday, the Senate took up another vote to pass emergency supplemental appropriations for the border. The Border Security Act of 2024 failed for the second time in a 43 to 50 vote, falling well short of the 60-vote threshold. Prominent Republicans, Democrats, and Independent Kyrsten Sinema negotiated the bill that initially sounded good but later proved problematic for many reasons.
For migrant rights advocates, immigrant families, and Latino lawmakers, the problems were many. The bill which was once a bargaining chip to secure war funding for Ukraine and Israel, is now exposed as a dangerous piece of legislation that eliminates many migrant rights and puts asylum-seekers at risk. Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA) is among those Latino lawmakers and he took to the Senate floor to explain just how problematic the bill is.
