They compare wearing masks to segregation; vaccine requirements to slavery; mask mandates to communism. They scream tyranny at the slightest inconvenience and that "the Gestapo" will be coming for you if you're unvaccinated.
They decry speaking out on actual tyranny and oppression by the oppressed as they watch the police state crackdown on peaceful protesters, disappear activists and organizers, and incarcerate non-white populations.
They sit in silence as non-white asylum seekers and climate refugees are imprisoned simply for searching out safety and security in the US - the country that promised them all the things as it's allowed to intervene in the daily lives of foreign nations.
They denounce foreign terrorists as they mimic their language, rhetoric, and strategies. They willingly allow fascism to creep in because it benefits them and only them.
I'm talking about Christian White Nationalism.
A tool in the white power toolbox to oppress non-white people, consolidate power and maintain a white supremacist state. Equally at fault are those that remain silent allowing hate- and fear-mongers to move freely about society recruiting unabated.
They watch these extremist groups grow more dangerous every day and simply shrug their shoulders. Meanwhile, Black and Indigenous people struggle to advance in society the most because they have the collective groups' boots on their necks.
All of this is born out of a crisis of ignorance and the broad miseducation of modern society in the US. It allows for real fascism and tyranny to creep in and get comfortable; with every passing day, passing year, it only grows more powerful.
The time to act has come and gone but it's never too late. We must keep up the fight and we must focus on education. It's on us to keep telling our stories; the history and speaking out against hate every chance we get.
The time is now.
If you are in proximity to bigots, it's on you to speak up. Civil society depends on citizens to have important discussions in order to move us forward. We haven't advanced much as a society since the Civil Rights Act because most civilians acted like racism was over.
Especially after Barack Obama was elected. Complacency about very crucial issues had never been higher. Then, when Trump was elected people wanted to act surprised that hate and bigotry were more widespread than it has been in decades.
The US has a lot of work to do and it starts with you.
Get. To. Work.
What is up setting to me is family who are Latino by birth supporting republican corruption.
