Did My Free Subscribers Get My Latest Post?
To update a comment from ICE about deputizing civilians, I had to un-schedule the post and couldn't re-schedule the email
My latest story is an important one. But an error on my part prevented the email from being sent to my free subscribers. If you missed the story, it’s a must-read that debunks a dangerous narrative that’s creating unnecessary panic and fear in communities like mine. Please read and share.
If you want to hear how I screwed it up, keep reading.
Is ICE Deputizing Civilians?
Let’s face it. What the Trump administration is currently doing to live up to the lies it told about Latino immigrants on the campaign trail is inhumane and largely illegal, as we have seen in case after case in cour…
It Goes Like This…
This week, I began sending my paid subscribers my posts immediately upon publishing while still sending the posts to my free subscribers at 7 AM to maintain the current schedule. You know, to minimize too many changes for free subscribers. The idea is to see if it helps bring in more supporters and help me boost my income while still keeping my content free via scheduled posts.
Speaking of…
However, after publishing the latest article and sending it to my paid subscribers, and while it was still scheduled for my free subscribers, I encountered an issue.
I’m not here to complain and say it’s
‘s fault, but for journalists who may have last-second updates, it’s something you should know about. After sending the article to my paid subscribers, a spokesperson for Immigration and Customs Enforcement ICE amended their statement to provide more clarity about deputizing civilians. When I updated the post, I had to unschedule delivery to free subs to save the changes.
When it came time to reschedule it, the only thing I could schedule was when the post would update, not when it would send the email to my free subscribers.
The Dilemma
I’m not sure if I should wait hours to update a post with pertinent information that some readers have already received, or if I need to publish additional posts like this one to ensure my free subscribers receive important news like this.
It’s something I’m currently debating.
I’m opening comments to everyone for this one (I block trolls). I’d love to hear your thoughts on the story above and/or this dilemma.
Thank you all for being understanding as I try some new things.
Much love.
I would send out an update email to the free subs
I may not fully understand the problem, so please bear with me.
Don't you just send the same post to both paid and non-paid? That's what I do. Seems less laborious than doing two separate posts, but I might not be understanding the issue correctly.
I also block trolls, but I keep my comments open to non-paid subscribers (I'm not claiming this is the best way). I block by deleting comments from trolls. I don't engage or argue. I delete, then block the account.Again, no engagement. They lost their rights to civil discussion by doubling down on hate after the election. Again, though, pick your "laborious" poison. It can be time consuming at first to delete troll comments, but, on the other hand, it's a handy way to block trolls.
One thing you can do to update a post that I think is worth a try: Go to Dashboard --> Posts, find the post you want to update, then click the ellipsis. You'll see a context menu item named "Duplicate" or "Copy" — Substack changes this arbitrarily for some reason. This will copy your entire post with the title like this: [Copy] Decolonized Awesome Post.
Then you can then change the title to "[Update] Decolonized Awesome Post." or whatever. Be sure to include the words, "ICE sucks." And of course, you can edit the post with your update.
FWIW, it does not look like I, as a free subscriber, received the post.
